What Steve said. A small(ish) highly focused RPG event is probably going to be better than either a high-profile event or hoping for the best, and Furnace looks like a decent option. No, it won't work perfectly (although the experience base is now getting wide enough to ensure that most issues are 'known') but it will likely be a great way to stumble into amazing things that one might never have considered.
He might advertise on his blog for people who would be interested in playing with him.
